Our Work

Join us in demanding justice for Virginia Laparra, a former prosecutor, facing her second trial on May 6 for alleged confidential information disclosure. This case, along with a prior unjust conviction, exemplifies judicial misuse against her anti-corruption efforts. Globally recognized for her dedication to justice by organizations like Amnesty International and the UN, Virginia’s legal battles highlight significant human rights concerns. We call on the Public Prosecutor’s Office and Judiciary to ensure a fair trial, uphold due process, and oppose the criminalization of anti-corruption efforts in Guatemala. Support us in observing this trial and advocating for Virginia’s right to a fair hearing.

Our Work

José Rubén Zamora, a prominent Guatemalan journalist and founder of elPeriódico, has been unjustly targeted for his investigative reporting on corruption. Arrested in July 2022 on politically motivated charges, Zamora has faced arbitrary detention, denial of due process, and harassment of his legal team. Amnesty International and the UN have condemned his imprisonment, recognizing it as a violation of press freedom and human rights. Despite international pressure, he remains at risk of continued persecution. His case exemplifies the broader crackdown on journalists and anti-corruption efforts in Guatemala. Advocates worldwide call for his immediate and unconditional release. #FreeZamora
